Work-Based Learning (WBL)

Meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom, preparing students for the workforce through engaging and authentic Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences. These opportunities provide students with direct interaction and collaboration with industry professionals and community partners. Through internships and work-study programs, students learn about work, learn through work, and learn in the workplace.

All WBL participants have the opportunity to explore their strengths, interests, and career aspirations through real-world experiences while developing essential workplace skills such as communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and self-advocacy. The Academy partners with a diverse network of businesses and organizations to provide meaningful WBL opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world application and help prepare students for success after graduation.

Internships at The Academy are not guaranteed and must be developed collaboratively by the student, parent(s)/guardian(s), and the school's WBL and/or Career and Technical Education (CTE) teams.

"The Academy believes that first-generation students deserve access to high-level opportunities, and the Work-Based Learning Program is living proof of that commitment."

Work-Based Learning Creates a Win-Win-Win for Students, Families, and Employers

For students, WBL provides a supportive environment to develop professional skills, explore career interests, and gain valuable workplace experience that gives them a competitive advantage after graduation. Families benefit by watching their students build confidence, strengthen financial literacy, and make more informed decisions about college and career pathways, leading to a smoother transition to adulthood.

Employers benefit from a pipeline of motivated young talent, with opportunities to mentor future employees while gaining fresh perspectives and meaningful support for their organizations.

When students, families, and employers work together, everyone wins.
