Theater Arts

Theater Arts Foundations develops student understanding of the theater and theatrical works. Students will create their own short plays, develop and perform scripted scenes, explore all elements of technical theater, practicing acting techniques for film, and play a variety of improvisation games. 

This course is an introduction to creating a theatrical production. Students will create a short performance based on adapting a traditional fairy or folk tale into a production or use a pre-written script. Students in this class may choose either the performance track or the technical theater track.

 “Anyone can learn to Improvise!”  Improvisation & Theater games is an interactive class that includes all of the foundations of improvisation.  Students will learn improv basics supported by a variety of theater games. In this class, we will practice object work, character building, short form, and long form Improvisations. This class is especially good for students who do not want to sit around! 

In Set Design & Construction students work together to create a set design for the Fall Play or the Spring Musical. Students will use a variety of power tools to build the set they have designed. Students will also use a variety of painting techniques to appropriately paint the set based on their design. Students will need to work independently and in teams, with each student taking on leadership roles throughout the process.
