Off-Site Evacuation and Student Pick-Up Procedures

Main Campus
In the event that we would have to leave the property, teachers will walk classes to Noah’s event center in Bradburn. The address is 11885 N Bradburn Blvd. We will send an email to all parents letting them know of the evacuation and that students may be picked up. Parents can then access this information on our website.

North Campus
In the event that we would have to leave the property, teachers will walk classes to DeVry.  We will send an email to all parents letting them know of the evacuation and that students may be picked up.  Parents can then access this information on our website.  In the case we are unable to get to DeVry, students should be led across the field to Cornerstone Academy.

Scheduled Practice Drills

The Academy is required to practice safety drills throughout the year as mandated by Charter School Institute.  We practice the following drills each year with our staff and students:

- fire drills (monthly)
- lockout/lockdown (twice a year)
- tornado (twice a year)

Explanation of Campus Statuses

CLOSED

The Academy is closed for inclement weather or another emergency as determined by our school closure policy.

LOCKOUT

Building is put on lockout due to danger outside.  The doors are locked and students are brought inside as a precautionary measure based on activity in the area.

LOCKDOWN

Building is put on lockdown due to danger inside or very near the building.  All students and staff are in lockdown – Locks, Lights, Out of Sight

EVACUATE

Students and staff are moved to a new or safe location due to a situation in or near the school building.

SHELTER

Students and staff are instructed to take shelter due to a situation in or near the school.

Reunification

As a result of any of the above scenarios, students may need to be reunified with parents through a controlled release at the school or a remote location.  We want to reunite students with parents, as soon as possible during an emergency situation.  We will work with police and fire agencies to determine when it is safe to reunite students and parents.  Should this become necessary, additional information will be passed to the community via the communication pathways.

HOLD

Hold is called when the hallways need to be kept clear due to a situation inside the building.  Students and staff are instructed to clear the halls and remain securely in a classroom until the situation is resolved.  Inside doors, it’s business as usual, although students may remain in class longer than usual.

Heightened Awareness

This means there will be additional access controls to the building during anticipated high visitor days.

Tornado WATCH

The National Weather Service issues a tornado WATCH when the possibility of a tornado exists.

Tornado WARNING

The National Weather Service issues a tornado WARNING when a tornado has been spotted or indicated on radar.
