2-hour delayed start ~ apologies, we will work on why the marquee does not show on phones

The Academy will operate on a 2-hour delayed start for Friday, February 07, 2020, due to the expected adverse weather conditions in the morning. Families should add two hours to the start of the school day, including adding two hours to the start times at every level.

Example: if school normally starts at 7:45 a.m., it will start at 9:45 a.m. School will end at its normal time.

Please check the website for what a 2-hour delayed start means. Families with students in junior high or high school should check the 2-hour delayed start bell times.

2-hour delayed starts maximize instructional time with students rather than closing for the entire day; this gives the city additional time to clear roads, sidewalks and parking lots to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

~ School is OPEN tomorrow and on a Tuesday late-start schedule ~

Current conditions look good enough, at the moment, that The Academy will be open on a late-start schedule, for tomorrow Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
Please make sure your child is dressed for the cold weather. Parents always have the right and the responsibility to do what is best for their family. The option to bring children to school late, or keep children home when weather conditions are extreme, is always at the parents’ discretion.

The Academy's CEO passing

We are incredibly saddened to share that David Floodeen, CEO of The Academy, passed away earlier this week due to complications from cancer. David was an integral member of our Academy team, and our hearts are broken for his family, friends and our community.

Our focus is on supporting his family, our Academy staff and students during this time of grief.

Tony Fontana has agreed to step-in as interim CEO of The Academy. We are thankful for Tony’s leadership and willingness to assist while we navigate the difficult weeks ahead.

If you have any question, please contact Lisa Boyer at lisa.boyer@theacademyk12.org.
